Every project starts with a real problem. We teach you the science behind it. You build something that could help, then pitch it.
From problem to pitch
- 1
Spot
Pick a real problem from our Data Points, Guardian cards and field challenges.
- 2
Learn
Short lessons from SustainaBee on the science and data behind it.
- 3
Build
Design a simple product, prototype or tool that could help.
- 4
Pitch
Show it to people who would use it and hear what they think.
Show your work and move up: Scout, Builder, Hivepreneur, then Hive Fellow. Titles and badges, not cash. The titles are proposed and may change.
Guardian Briefs
A Brief is a real problem with the data and science to get you started. You choose the one you care about, build an answer, test it with real people and pitch it in 90 seconds.
Cool Roof Check
Hot classrooms hurt focus. Which low-cost changes cool one real classroom the most?
Coolspire · ages 13 to 15Water Watch
Most of us do not know where our water goes. Measure it, then find one change worth making.
Mistpeak · ages 14 to 17Harvest Timer
How can a farmer judge the right time to harvest without special equipment? Study one crop, build a simple tool and test it with farmers.
Rootara · ages 16 to 19
Three of nine concept Briefs. Nothing here has been run yet, and every fact is checked against a named source before a group starts. Real Briefs will come from our Data Points, Guardian cards and field challenges.
The Guardians set the problems
Each Hive Guardian carries a challenge from their part of nature. Every Wednesday it arrives as a science card. In Hive Lab it becomes a Brief you can build on.
See the science cardsGuardians Watch is coming once real data exists. Real farm data, explained by the matching Guardian, with students working out what it means. It is not built yet.

On your own
Tell us which problem you would like to solve.
With your group
A club or class with an adult lead. Tell us who you are.
Hive Lab is at the interest stage and no dates are set. Student products are prototypes and concepts. Pitches are for practice and feedback, and nothing is sold or funded. Students under 18 need a parent or guardian’s consent. Every session follows our safeguards: two adults present, no private messages between mentors and students, and photos only with written consent. We will review them with schools and parents before the first session.
